The upgrade feature for items lets players upgrade their existing equipment. This can be done at any item upgrader NPC.

Generally, upgrades increase an item's main stat and give it extras depending on the item type. Examples include Whistan’s shield for FB Sorcs or Goldwraps for build casters.

Armour

Link's armor is a key element in keeping him safe from harm. Although it cannot be upgraded like weapons, it is possible to enhance its defence capabilities in various ways.

The principle of armour is to safeguard a person or animal from physical harm or injury, either from direct physical attack or from a range of dangers to the environment or activity. In the past, armour was typically made from fabric or leather however later, metal protections were used as well, especially in military applications such as heavy cavalry or combat drones.

Like weapons there are a myriad of ways in which armour can be upgraded, however, most of them will require a visit to one of the four Great Fairy Fountains located throughout Hyrule. Each fountain comes with its own level of upgrades available with higher levels of upgrades granting higher levels of protection, and requiring a higher cost in rupees and other materials to unlock.

First, Armor Upgrades are permanent upgrades. Once they've been applied and removed, they cannot be reverted unless you own another piece of gear with the same upgrade. You should only apply most powerful upgrades to your equipment and make sure that you have all the components needed to complete them.

You can find the upgrades you require in a variety of places around Hyrule. These include shrines, merchants and even enemies. They're usually identified with an orange triangle or a gold circle symbol. They are available in large quantities as you progress through. They can appear randomly, but there is a possibility that obtaining certain upgrades will trigger a quest which will reward you with more.

It's also worth noting that, even though the level of protection offered by each upgrade is different, it is the same across all upgrades and will always be superior to nothing. A complete set of upgraded armor will give you a high-defense boost that will protect against all kinds of attacks and will also protect against magic. This makes it a formidable weapon for all classes.

Weapons

If you'd like to make your guns truly unique, you can upgrade them with a variety upgrades. They can boost damage, change the weapon's stats in order to adapt to your specific build, and even unlock new attachments such as unique enchantments, ammo types and other options for aesthetics.

To upgrade a weapon you'll need to have an upgrade component in place and the item. The weapon must be at or near an appropriate level to upgrade it. Most weapons only be upgraded by one upgrade.

There are weapon upgrade components scattered around the world and from the hands of enemies, or they can be purchased from merchants. Upgrade components are a mixture of ingredients that you are able to incorporate into armors, weapons trinkets, gathering tools and trinkets to earn an attribute bonus. The equipment must be at a certain level before it can accept the upgrade. It is able to be upgraded in the same way as other items.

Upgrades are a mix of Smithing Stones (a type of stone) and Runes. They are used to improve the power of weapons and increase their ability to scale with other stats. These upgrades can be obtained from enemies in the open world or from merchants. They can also be dropped by combat.

Two NPCs can upgrade your weapon: Blacksmith Hewg, located in the Roundtable Hold hub zone and the Smithing Master Iji, in the Road to Manor hub zone. Both of these NPCs will accept your Smithing Stones and Runes in exchange for a higher-level version of the weapon as well as an enhancement.

Prioritize upgrading your most-used slot items first. Then, upgrade the items that you aren't likely to replace anytime soon. Upgrade your weapon first, then upgrade your shoulders, chest feet, hands, and shoulders when you are planning to play an asymmetrical build. Similar principles apply to Magic and Utility Items, with the caveat that certain items may be better than others, based on your style of play. The same goes for Armour and reforges, with some having superior performance over others.

Magic Items

A character is able to upgrade only one magic item. If an upgrade plan has been cancelled, no more upgrades will be made for that item. Upgraded magic items cost twice as much gold to create or purchase, but can have other benefits.

A magical item is any item with special properties or effects. The majority of these items are weapons, but there are some that are also armor, shields, cloaks, potions, scrolls, rings and other objects. Some of these items are telepathic.

Many magic items can be enhanced in their abilities. This makes them more useful for players, or could help them conquer any difficult situation. A weapon that contains an ingredient that is unique could be able to provide extra damage against a certain kind of enemy. This is particularly useful for characters that have reached a level where they'll likely encounter the same kind of monster in dungeons over and over again.

A ring that is infused with magic might grant immunity to nonmagical attacks that bludgeon, pierce, or cut (excluding silver-based attacks) until the character takes another long rest. This is particularly beneficial for melee martial characters or anyone who wants to avoid buying an armor.

Certain objects with enchanted properties have special abilities that allow the character to cast spells that are not on their class list. This is beneficial for those who are having trouble filling their spell slots because of multiclassing. These items with enchanted abilities typically require an Intelligence (Arcana) check prior to use, and the spell's effectiveness is determined by rolling an index determined by the number of Intelligence points spent.

Other enchanted objects might allow the character's appearance be changed, or they could even create a brand new one. These items are especially useful for characters who have been forced to leave their home or are in a place in which they are not accepted. An item that is magical can grant them an invisibility effect, or make them invisible to all except a chosen person.

Utility Items

Utility items are equipment which doesn't fall under the categories of clothing or armor and are able to perform a variety of capabilities. Utility items aren't compatible with each other, as opposed to weapons or armor. Most utility items come with a passive effect that players can activate while using them. However, some of them have additional abilities that are activated by pressing a button, or by activating an ability.

The Flashlight is the most popular accessory. It lights up the area around it. Other utilities include the Helicopter Hat and Rocket Boots, which allow players to fly in the air while moving and the Jetpack which allows the player to accelerate in any direction while on the ground. In the Engineering section, you can create instantly a variety of utilitarian items, whereas others are unlocked by Research projects or experimental projects on the Proving Ground.

In addition to the items that are available in the normal inventory, players can also obtain some more powerful utility items by purchasing them from the Atomic Shop and also from seasonal Scoreboard rewards (such as the Shadow Goggles). Certain of these items can be upgraded to make them more effective.

Most utility items increase a specific combat attribute or give the player some sort of advantage in navigation. For example, Sharpening stones made by the Weaponsmith boost Ferocity and Power as well as Maintenance Oils created by the Huntsman boost the concentration and healing power. Other items that are useful can be used by the player to increase Damage or Condition Damage.

All XCOM soldiers can equip a utility item at the beginning of the campaign, and an additional slot can be obtained through the use of certain types armor or completing engineering research or experiments in the Proving Ground. In the Alien Hunters DLC, additional slots are added by equipping the Grenade Launcher, which lets the player equip an Smoke Grenade or Bomb in another grenade slot. an offensive grenade can be placed in the main grenade slot.
